Faculty Details

Dr William E. DeTurk PhD, PT

William E. DeTurk, PhD, PT is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Stony Brook DPT Program in the areas of clinical medicine, acute care, exercise physiology, and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation. As a former Cardiopulmonary Clinical Specialist, he currently provides clinical services to the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Northport, NY. Dr. DeTurk received his BA from Duke University with a major in English Literature, a BS from SUNY Downstate in Physical Therapy, an MA from New York University in Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy, and a PhD from New York University in Pathokinesiology. He has extensive clinical experience in the provision of physical therapy services in hospital and home care settings with specialty practice in acute care and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation.
Dr. DeTurk has presented at state and national conferences, and has an extensive publication history in journals and texts.  He co-authored Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy: An Evidence-Based Approach, a textbook published by McGraw-Hill, now in its second edition.
